Biography :

Educated at Ratcliffe College, Leicestershire, and at RMA Sandhurst, Shaun Brogan was commissioned into The Royal Anglian Regiment on 15.12.1965, serving in 4th Bn in Malta, Libya, Aden, and Gillingham. Promoted Lt on 17.6.1967. He served in 22 SAS from 1969-72, and spent 15 months on active service in Oman as Ops Officer/Field Commander, 22 SAS, 1971-72. For his work there he was awarded the M.C (L.G. 24.11.1972). He left the Regular Army on 1.10.1972 and took a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Lincoln College, Oxford University, whilst there serving in 23 SAS (V). Whilst in Oxford he met, and later married, his wife Catherine, a doctor. They moved to Oman, where Shaun was part of a “winning the peace” campaign through reconstruction and medical programmes following the Dhofar War. During this time he also commanded the Sultan's Special Forces. Back in the UK, Shaun was employed by a security firm specialising in anti-kidnapping and close protection work, before returning to the Oman for the third time where they worked for the Ministry of Health leading the immunization and prevention of blindness programme.
On return to the UK, he began a new career in NHS management, rising to become the chief executive of the Vale of Aylesbury Primary Care Trust before finally retiring on medical grounds with Parkinson’s Disease in 2004.
He completed the draft of an autobiography shortly before his death on 9.7.2017, aged 73 years. He was the son of Major W St S Brogan OBE DL of the Regiment.
