Rolph, Charles Colwyn

Biography :

Charles Rolph joined 1st Battalion in September 1908. Promoted Lieutenant 27.3.1911, and went with the 1st Battalion to Ireland in September 1912. In January 1914 he won the British Ski Championship held at Saanen Moser, Switzerland. Posted to 2nd Battalion in September 1914 following promotion to Captain. He was wounded in November 1914, and killed in action on 15.10.1915, aged 27. He is buried at Gorre British and Indian Cemetery, France. He has a commemorative brass plaque in the Regimental Chapel in Leicester Cathedral.
He was the son of Lt Col W M Rolph and brother of W L Rolph and G W Rolph, all of the Regiment.
