Biography :

Enlisted at Leicester in 1904 and saw service in India with the 2nd Bn, before returning to the UK and then serving with the 2nd and 3rd Bn in World War One. Posted to 'D' Company from 29th reinforcements 7.10.1915. Appointed Unpaid Lance Corporal 4.11.1915. Killed in action Mesopotamia 13.1.1916. He commemorated on Basra Memorial, Iraq.

He was born in Eaton, Leicestershire in 1885, the son of James Shelton and his wife Elizabeth. In 1914 Arthur married Edith Catherine Main, and they had two children, Arthur Aisne Shelton in 1915 and Janet Mary Shelton in 1916.
